GOLDRAT RIVER SLUICING: A HISTORY

The pioneer days of gold mining in the Goldrat were characterized by a peculiar method known as sluicing. Originating from the necessity to extract coveted minerals from the densely packed riverbeds, sluicing became as a common practice. Astute miners would build elaborate sluice boxes, carefully directing the river water to wash away the unwant
